Complete range Almost without exception all new seismic vessels delivered are equipped with system solutions supplied by ODIM. The market is strong, and ODIM’s order books for the segment are full well into 2009.
“It looks like the market will maintain its current buoyancy for a good number of years yet,” says Vice President Seismic, Idar Hatløy. He also tells us that ODIM is working on a number of interesting projects in this sector. “We believe that these efforts will result in even more work for us in the foreseeable future,” he continues. “We have increased our capacity to meet demand thus far by outsourcing a large volume of our total production. This is a policy that will be important for us to continue to implement, in order to continuously expand production capacity.” TOTAL SOLUTIONSThe majority of participants in the seismic market have selected ODIM as their preferred equipment supplier. Hatløy believes that one important reason for this is the high level of expertise amongst ODIM’s employees, together with the fact that the company supplies total aft deck solutions. This combination results in that customers are assured a reduction in the use of their own resources in the follow-up phase. One area in which ODIM sees strong growth is in equipment for seabed logging (SBL). “We have noted that a number of participants wish to make an entry into this market,” explains Idar Hatløy. ODIM has developed aft deck solutions for this specialised field in which electro-magnetic waves are used to determine if a reservoir contains hydrocarbons or simply seawater. ODIM’s automated solutions reduce the requirement for the number of personnel on deck during operations, as well as reducing the time it takes to winch the equipment down to and up from the desired depth. ODIM also offers handling solutions in the market for seabed seismic operations (OBC). In this method, seismic cables are laid on the seabed instead of being towed behind a vessel. CONTINUOUS DEVELOPMENTODIM has held a leading position in handling equipment for the seismic industry for more than 30 years. By continuously developing new and lighter equipment, and more automated and compact solutions, the company has been an important contributor to that seismic operating companies have increased their capacity and have been able to handle an ever-increasing number of streamers in the sea simultaneously. “We never cease our research and development in our efforts to continue to simplify and increase the efficiency of aft deck operations on seismic vessels, while at the same time supplying solutions that focus on maximum safety,” says Idar Hatløy.
